A Visit from the Goon Squad

Roxana Ortega's narration is the beating heart of this audiobook. Her ability to distinguish between each character's voice adds layers to Egan’s already rich narrative, making it impossible not to empathize with their journeys. The first story follows James Taylor, a young musician whose life intersects with those of other characters throughout the book, and Ortega's portrayal is so vivid that you can almost hear his guitar strings resonate. However, some segments drag slightly due to overly detailed descriptions and slow transitions between stories. Despite this, the audiobook remains a gripping exploration of how our lives are intertwined in unexpected ways.
