Abscond

I was struck by the way Fajer Al-Kaisi's calm and measured narration perfectly complements the introspective tone of Abraham Verghese's writing. As the protagonist navigates the challenges of growing up, Al-Kaisi's subtle inflections and pacing bring a sense of authenticity to the story. One of the things that resonated with me was the way Verghese explores the tensions between cultural heritage and personal identity. If I have any quibbles, it's that the production could benefit from a slightly more nuanced sound design – at times, the audio feels a bit flat. Additionally, I found the story's resolution to be a touch abrupt, leaving some loose threads that didn't entirely satisfy me. Still, 'Abscond' is a haunting and thought-provoking listen that will linger long after the final sentence.
