His Pedro is a delight: all bluster and big ideas, but with a vulnerability that makes you root for him. The supporting cast of mice (and one memorably cranky otter) each feel distinct, a small but crucial detail that keeps the story from blending into the sea of generic animal adventures. The plot itself is deceptively simple: a surprise snowstorm buries the Frost Fair preparations, and the mice must improvise. What elevates it is Reeve’s knack for *specific* details—the way the mice repurpose a thimble as a sled, or how the fair’s “grand finale” hinges on a daring (and slightly ridiculous) plan involving a frozen pond and a very confused goose.
