I found myself completely immersed in Alma Mendoza from the very first chapter, thanks in large part to Mikayla Klien's captivating narration. Her ability to convey the raw emotions of each character with such precision and sensitivity was truly impressive. What I loved about this audiobook was how it seamlessly weaved the complexities of the human psyche with the harsh realities of the Alaskan fishing industry. Zappa's storytelling is unflinching, and Klien's performance perfectly captures the tension and emotional intensity that drives the story forward. The pacing is spot-on, with just the right amount of introspection and action to keep listeners engaged. While the characters can be quite complex, I did find that at times it took a bit of effort to keep track of their individual storylines and relationships. But overall, Alma Mendoza is a must-listen for fans of psychological fiction and those who appreciate a compelling, thought-provoking narrative.
