She nails the generational divide in cadence—the parents’ exhausted skepticism, the kids’ bratty self-assurance—without ever resorting to over-the-top performances. The first half hums with a *Freaks and Geeks*-esque authenticity, but Straub’s script sags slightly in the middle when the plot pivots to the family’s internet fame. It’s a misstep that feels too tidy, as if she’s trying to force the story into a more conventional arc. That said, Ireland sells it anyway, her voice dripping with sarcasm when the Wheelers’ reality-TV moment arrives. The production is crisp, with no distracting edits, letting the story’s humor and pathos breathe. My only real gripe? The ending wraps up just a little too neatly, as if Straub was afraid her readers wouldn’t trust them to sit with the unease. Still, by the final chapter, I found myself laughing through tears—always the best (and worst) sign that a book’s gotten under my skin.
