That contrast—cool precision vs. emotional freefall—is the audiobook’s secret weapon. Where it stumbles slightly is in the flashbacks. The shifts between past and present are *thematically* sharp (showing how this marriage was always a house of cards), but Reizen’s tone doesn’t always pivot enough to signal the jump, leaving me momentarily lost in a few transitions. And while the Alaskan setting is vivid, I wished for more sensory immersion—more wind howling through the mic, more crackling fire sounds in the production. Still, the ending? A gut-punch delivered with surgical precision.
