Angels Before Man

I’ll admit, when I first pressed play on *Angels Before Man*, I expected another rehash of Lucifer-as-antagonist tropes. What I got was something far more unsettling and exquisite: a story that reads like a love letter from a god to a god, then rips that letter to shreds. Lance West’s narration is the real revelation here—his voice has a hypnotic, almost incantatory quality, pulling you into the celestial headspace with effortless precision. He’s got a rare ability to make even the most abstract theological musings feel visceral, like you’re standing in the throne room of heaven yourself, squinting through the dazzle of divine light at a being who might just be terrified of his own reflection. That said, the pacing occasionally buckles under the weight of its own ambition. There are stretches where the narrative meanders through dense, almost *Mormon*-esque theological digressions about the nature of worship and creation, and I found myself wishing for a firmer editorial hand to trim some of the fat. Nicolás has a tendency to overwrite, slipping into purple prose that borders on indulgent—though, to his credit, the payoff is often worth it. The production, meanwhile, is top-tier: wide, immersive stereo imaging that makes the heavens feel endless, with just enough reverb to remind you this isn’t your average angelic choir. By the final act, when Lucifer’s fall unfolds in all its messy, glorious uncertainty, I wasn’t just emotionally drained—I was *changed*. A flawed masterpiece, but a masterpiece nonetheless.
