Best Laid Plans

I recently had the pleasure of listening to Best Laid Plans, and I must say, it left an indelible mark. Luke Valère's narration is a standout aspect of this audiobook - his voice is warm, engaging, and effortlessly conveys the characters' emotions. His portrayal of the protagonist, Heff, is remarkable, capturing his vulnerability and intensity with precision. One of the aspects that struck me most was the nuanced exploration of PTSD, which often feels glossed over in romance narratives. Zanders handles this sensitive topic with care and respect, weaving it seamlessly into the character's backstory. The pacing is well-balanced, moving effortlessly between lighter moments and more intense scenes. If I have any critique, it's that the supporting characters sometimes feel slightly underdeveloped - I would have loved to see more of the female characters in particular. Nevertheless, this is a minor quibble in what is otherwise a captivating and thought-provoking listen. Overall, Best Laid Plans is an exceptional romance that balances heart-pumping action with tender emotional moments, all set against the poignant backdrop of military life.
