Declan Winters nails the duality at the heart of *Black & White*—he balances Nero’s exhausted, world-weary grit with Felix’s desperate, almost feral energy so seamlessly it’s like listening to two people trading lead and secrets over a whiskey bottle. His performance leans into the snark and swagger of Nero’s internal monologue while letting Felix’s haunted, singsong cadence claw its way into your attention until you’re leaning in, desperate to hear what’ll come out of his mouth next. The pacing is tight, with Winters modulating his tone so the action sequences hit like a sucker punch—you’ll be gripping your phone (or steering wheel) by the time Nero and Felix’s first skirmish erupts. That said, the production stumbles a bit during the quieter, introspective moments. Some emotional revelations are delivered with a flatness that undercuts their weight, making Felix’s backstory feel rushed instead of earned. And while Nero’s dry humor is a standout strength, Winters occasionally overdoes the sarcastic edge, blunting the impact of moments that should land harder. Still, these are minor quibbles in a performance that otherwise elevates the material to something far more immersive than the blurb lets on.
