About This Audiobook

Clementine Waterhouse isn’t your typical spell-slinging heroine. A witch who runs her coven with a spreadsheet and a skeptical eye, she calculates love the way most people calculate taxes—methodically, with an eye for ROI. But when a broody werewolf stumbles into her life (and her bookstore), Clementine’s carefully constructed cost-benefit analysis starts to wobble. Ann Aguirre’s sharp, modern prose crackles with humor and heart, making *Boss Witch* feel less like a fantasy novel and more like a rom-com with a magical twist. The worldbuilding is immersive but never overwhelming, blending urban witchiness with relatable relationship drama. By the time Clementine starts questioning whether her spreadsheets are missing a line item titled *‘maybe just kiss him already’*, you’ll be hooked.

What sets this audiobook apart is Ava Lucas’s narration, which drips with dry wit and just the right amount of snark. She nails Clementine’s razor-sharp pragmatism without making her unlikable, and her portrayal of the gruff but secretly soft-hearted werewolf, Bastien, is downright swoon-worthy. The pacing is brisk—never dragging, even during the more introspective moments—and the chemistry between the leads crackles through the sound waves. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a witch who plans her life like a project manager meets a man who howls at the moon for fun, here’s your answer.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *Boss Witch* expecting another fluffy paranormal romance, but Aguirre’s writing and Lucas’s narration elevated it into something far more satisfying. Clementine’s journey from spreadsheet witch to chaotic, lovesick disaster is both hilarious and oddly relatable—how many of us have tried to logic our way out of a crush? Ava Lucas deserves an award for making Clementine’s internal monologue sound like a snarky best friend narrating her own life, and her timing in the banter-laden scenes is impeccable. The werewolf trope gets a fresh spin here; Bastien isn’t just a brooding hunk but a fully realized character with his own vulnerabilities, which keeps the romance from feeling like a tired retread. My only real critique is that the secondary characters occasionally blur together—the coven members, in particular, could use more distinct voices to make them feel like more than just a collective chorus of snark. And while the production is crisp, there were a few moments where the background music swelled a bit too dramatically during quieter dialogue scenes, which threw me out of the story. But these are minor quibbles in an otherwise delightful listen. If you love romances with sharp dialogue, a heroine who’s more of a planner than a damsel, and a narrator who makes even grocery lists sound entertaining, *Boss Witch* is your audiobook.
