It’s a bold choice, and it works—most of the time. Where the audiobook stumbles slightly is in its uneven rhythm. Chopra’s tendency to linger on abstract metaphors (a ‘river of consciousness,’ a ‘lotus blooming in fire’) can feel indulgent in audio form, especially when Torres’ cadence slows to match the prose’s density. A tighter edit might’ve trimmed some of the more meandering philosophical tangents. That said, the payoff arrives in the second half, where Buda’s teachings emerge not as lectures but as *hard-won scars*. The scene where he faces Mara’s temptations is electric—Torres’ voice snarls with the demon’s taunts, then softens into Buda’s exhausted, triumphant silence.
