Cari Mora, the protagonist, is a woman shaped by trauma, her instincts honed by survival, and Harris sells her quiet resilience without a shred of melodrama. The real star, though, is Miami itself—this isn’t the postcard version, but a dank, sun-bleached hellscape where cartels and corrupt cops blur into one another. The pacing is relentless, but not in a way that feels rushed; Harris trusts the reader to keep up, and the payoff in the final act is worth the tightrope walk. That said, the audiobook’s production occasionally stumbles.
