About This Audiobook

Chasing the Bard is a captivating blend of historical fantasy and romance that will transport you to a world on the brink of extinction. Philippa Ballantine's narrative is as enchanting as the realm she's created, filled with vivid descriptions of ancient magic and crumbling landscapes. The story is propelled by Sive, a goddess who's equal parts fierce and vulnerable, making her a heroine you can't help but root for. What sets this audiobook apart is Ballantine's own narration, which brings an intimate, almost conspiratorial tone to the storytelling, as if she's sharing a secret. It's a unique touch that makes the listening experience feel like a private performance.

AudioBook Atlas

As a listener, I was immediately drawn into the world of the Fey, with its rich history and looming sense of doom. Ballantine's narration is a highlight of this audiobook - she imbues each character with a distinct voice and emotion, making the story feel alive. The pacing is excellent, balancing action, dialogue, and exposition in a way that keeps you engaged. I particularly loved the dynamic between Sive and her human love interest, which is both tender and tense. However, I did find some of the world-building exposition a tad info-dumpy at times, which could have been integrated more smoothly into the narrative. Overall, though, Chasing the Bard is a compelling listen that will appeal to fans of historical fantasy, strong female leads, and unique world-building.
