Wheeler’s narration is a standout: she nails the tonal shifts between Arthur’s LA slickness and his homesick wit, and her cadence for the town’s paranormal side characters (I’m looking at you, Mabel the meddling banshee) feels like a performance all its own. The chemistry between Arthur and the ex he’s dodging, Lila, crackles with a chemistry that’s equal parts nostalgia and friction, and the holiday setting isn’t just festive—it’s practically a character, with snowstorms and Solstice traditions adding texture to every scene. My only nitpick is that the subplot with Arthur’s estranged brother felt underdeveloped; it’s clear it’s meant to mirror the main romance, but it wraps up too neatly.
