About This Audiobook

Citizen Coke is not your average corporate history. Bartow J. Elmore doesn't just pour you a glass of Coca-Cola's past, he forces you to confront the bitter taste of its present. This is a deep dive into the company's supply chain, revealing a web of exploitation and power that stretches from the Andean mountains to the American South. Elmore's narrative is as refreshing as an ice-cold Coke, but it's also as bubbly with controversy as a shaken soda. William Hughes' narration is the perfect complement, his measured tone keeping the story from becoming too sugary, allowing the bitter truths to cut through.

Editor's Review ★★★★

AudioBook Atlas

I approached Citizen Coke expecting a fascinating business history, but I got so much more. Elmore's meticulous research and engaging storytelling paint a picture of Coca-Cola that's as complex and multi-layered as the drink itself. Hughes' narration is excellent, his voice capturing the right balance of authority and accessibility. He makes even the most dense historical details engaging. The pacing is steady, never rushing through important details, yet never bogging down in minutiae. My only critique? I wish Elmore had delved a bit deeper into the environmental impact of Coca-Cola's operations. But that's a minor quibble in an otherwise outstanding audiobook experience.
