I approached 'Combat: The Civil War' with some trepidation, expecting a dry, academic account. Instead, I found myself drawn in by Congdon's vivid storytelling and Barrett's engaging narration. Barrett's performance is a tour de force, his ability to shift seamlessly between accents and tones making each character distinct and compelling. The pacing is excellent, balancing the need to cover vast amounts of historical ground with the desire to linger on key moments. My only critique is that the sheer volume of detail can sometimes feel overwhelming, but this is a small price to pay for such a comprehensive and engaging account.
