When I pressed play on Cosmic Forces, I wasn’t sure what to expect after the first two books, but Christopher Hurt immediately set the tone. His voice is husky enough to convey Helman's battle‑worn grit, yet he slides into a softer register when the narrative dips into the eerie, almost mythic lore behind the new evil. The opening chapters are paced deliberately, allowing the dread to build like a slow‑burning fuse, and I appreciated that the narrator resisted the urge to rush through exposition. The production is solid: background ambience is used sparingly but effectively—think faint industrial hums and the occasional crackle of static that suggest a world on the brink of collapse. However, the audiobook does stumble in a few places; a couple of longer combat sequences felt a tad monotonous, as the same cadence repeats without enough variation. Also, while the sound effects add to the immersion, there are moments when they edge into being overly loud, momentarily drowning out Hurt’s nuanced delivery. Despite these minor hiccups, the story itself is a relentless cascade of horror and sci‑fi set‑pieces. Lamberson’s knack for blending grotesque imagery with a sense of cosmic inevitability makes the third volume feel both fresh and inevitable. If you love horror that doesn’t shy away from big, existential stakes, and you enjoy an audiobook that treats you like an active participant in the terror, this is a compelling listen. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s already walked the road with Helman—or anyone brave enough to start the journey now.
