When Badger calmly dismantles Toad’s excuses (“But the open road *calls* to me!”), it’s both hilarious and uncomfortably relatable. The audiobook’s pacing is deliberate, giving weight to the therapeutic process without dragging. Pryal’s narration is a standout—his Toad is delightfully insufferable, his Badger exudes quiet competence, and his Rat and Mole provide the emotional grounding the story needs. My only critique? The transitions between dialogue and explanatory sections can feel abrupt at times, as if the audiobook isn’t sure whether it’s a play or a lecture. And while the Wind in the Willows framing is brilliant, the final act leans a bit too hard into tidy resolution—real therapy, as we know, is messier. Still, this is a rare audiobook that’s as entertaining as it is educational. I caught myself pausing to jot down Badger’s phrases (“What would happen if you *didn’t* act on that impulse?”) for real-life use. The production quality is crisp, with no distracting background noise, though I wish the characters’ voices had slightly more distinct audio textures to match their personalities.
