I started *Darcy’s Obsession* expecting another broody Darcy redemption arc, but North’s version is far more unsettling—and far better for it. Megan Green’s performance is the standout here, modulating Darcy’s arrogance and torment with precision. Her voice drips with the kind of aristocratic disdain you’d dread at a dinner party, but it’s her quieter moments—when Darcy’s obsession curdles into genuine distress—that truly haunt. The production is crisp, with no distracting room tone, and Green’s pacing keeps the 2-hour runtime brisk without rushing the emotional beats. That said, the story’s second half leans heavily into Darcy’s internal monologue, and while North’s prose is sharp, the repetition of his regrets occasionally blunts the tension. I also wished for more Lizzy’s perspective; her absence post-Hunsford feels like a missed opportunity to deepen the conflict. Still, this isn’t a romance for the faint of heart—it’s a character study of a man unraveling, and Green makes you care even when Darcy’s behavior crosses into the reprehensible. If you like your historical fiction with bite and your narrators capable of conveying rage and longing in a single inflection, this is your audiobook.
