Scarlett’s self-sabotage and Elias’s gilded pressure cooker of a life feel painfully real, and their dynamic crackles with the kind of tension that only comes from two people who *get* each other’s obsession. The audiobook production leans into this beautifully: Plummer’s Scarlett sounds like she’s holding her breath even when she’s speaking, while Holtzmuller’s Elias smolders with the confidence of a man who’s never had to fight for attention—until now. That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle. The training montages (yes, there are montages) drag when the emotional stakes aren’t as high, and I found myself fast-forwarding through a few repetitive ‘will they/won’t they’ beats. And while the steamy scenes are *excellent*—Hazelwood writes consent and communication like a pro—I wished the emotional fallout from their first hookup had more weight.
