I’ll admit, I went into *Diamond Devil* expecting a soapy revenge fantasy, but what I got was far more interesting—and occasionally frustrating. The premise is *wild* (imagine walking in on your sister’s fiancé and realizing he’s the guy who ghosted you after a one-night stand *and* a positive pregnancy test), but West doesn’t let the shock value carry the story. Instead, she digs into the psychological fallout: the heroine’s simmering rage, the hero’s defensive charm, and the way their past collides with a present that keeps throwing gasoline on the fire. The narration is a standout. Cecily Foster *nailed* the heroine’s voice—equal parts wounded and wicked, with a dry humor that keeps her from feeling like a victim. Connor Brown, though, is the real surprise. He plays the hero with a velvet-smooth delivery that makes you *almost* forget he’s a giant red flag—until the script reminds you. My only critique? The pacing drags slightly in the middle when the suspense subplot (involving a shady business deal) feels tacked on, like West wasn’t entirely sure whether this was a romance or a thriller. And while the ending *works*, it’s polarizing—some listeners will cheer, others will throw their phones. Still, the raw emotional honesty and the narrators’ performances make this one worth the ride.
