Okay, let’s talk about *Don’t Let Me Go*—because this audiobook is *fun*. Like, ‘laugh-out-loud-while-grocery-shopping’ fun, but with enough heart that I found myself rewinding certain scenes just to soak in the tension. The premise (heroine’s virginity becomes team gossip) could’ve veered into tired tropes, but Kelsie Rae makes it work by letting Lily’s humiliation feel *real*—not just a plot device. Her reactions aren’t performative; they’re raw, and Allie Shae’s narration sells every eye-roll, stutter, and moment of quiet defeat. Joe Arden’s Theo, meanwhile, is the perfect foil: a guy who’s spent years teasing Lily but can’t hide how much he *notices* her. Their chemistry is electric, especially in the scenes where the banter drops and the subtext takes over.
That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle—there’s a stretch where the conflict feels artificially prolonged (how many times can they almost kiss before it gets old?), and Theo’s internal monologues occasionally dip into ‘broody hockey player’ cliché. The production, though, is flawless: the use of subtle sound effects (skates on ice, crowd noise) grounds the story without overwhelming it, and the narrators’ timing during arguments is *chef’s kiss*. My only real critique? The ending wraps up a tad too neatly, but by that point, I was so invested in these two idiots figuring their lives out that I didn’t even care. If you love romances where the emotional payoff feels *earned*—and where the humor doesn’t undercut the stakes—this is a slam dunk."
