Drakon's Promise

Samantha Cook’s narration is the star here—her voice shifts seamlessly between Darius’s brooding intensity, the soft lilt of human characters, and the guttural growls of drakon dialogue. She nails the emotional beats, especially in Darius’s quieter moments, where his vulnerability shines through layers of gruffness. The pacing is tight, with action sequences that don’t drag and romantic interludes that feel earned. That said, the Knights as villains are a bit one-note—more faceless zealots than nuanced antagonists. And while the worldbuilding is solid, some side characters fade into the background, leaving their arcs underdeveloped. Still, the chemistry between Darius and the human lead, Lila, is electric. Their banter feels natural, their attraction palpable, and their conflicts believable. The audiobook’s production is clean, with no distracting audio artifacts, though the occasional abrupt chapter cut jarred me out of immersion. Overall, it’s a gripping listen for fans of slow-burn romances with bite.
