I listened to *Embracing Today* in one marathon weekend, and my dog gave me the side-eye for skipping walks. Marino’s narration of Marin is a revelation—she nails the razor-witted grief that wavers between brittle humor and sobbing messiness, especially in the flashback scenes where the loss is still fresh. Shedlock’s Bennett is trickier; his stoicism borders on broody, but the quiet moments where he cracks—like when he admits he never wanted to be the hero Marin needed—land like a gut punch. The chemistry between the two narrators is electric, their chemistry in tandem feels like watching two people learn to dance while the music keeps changing tempo. My only real critique is the secondary characters, who sometimes feel like props for Marin and Bennett’s emotional arc. The fire captain’s backstory added nothing new, and Marin’s best friend’s voice blurred into the scenery. Production-wise, the audio quality is pristine, but the music cues feel heavy-handed during quieter scenes. That said, these flaws are minor in a story that otherwise crackles with authenticity. The ending is a slow burn that explodes into something quietly triumphant, the kind of payoff that makes you exhale and immediately want to start over.
