Her voice drips with playful seduction during the steamy scenes, but she also nails the gravitas when the stakes get real. That said, the production hit a few snags—there’s a noticeable echo in some of the outdoor dialogue scenes that pulled me out of the moment more than once. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s a niggle worth mentioning if you’re listening on headphones. What really won me over was the chemistry between the leads. Archer doesn’t shy away from making his protagonist flawed and reluctant, which makes his gradual shift into something more heroic feel earned. The fae queen isn’t just a damsel in distress; she’s manipulative, magnetic, and maddeningly enigmatic, a far cry from the usual ‘helpless waif’ trope. The world-building is where this audiobook shines, too—Archer’s fae society feels lived-in, with its own politics, slang, and moral gray areas that add depth without slowing the plot. My only real critique? The ending wraps up a little too neatly for my tastes. After all the chaos and character growth, a tidy resolution felt like a missed opportunity for something grittier. Still, if you’re here for a rom-com with fangs and fairy dust, this delivers in spades. Leblang’s narration elevates the material from ‘fun’ to ‘favorite,’ and the blend of romance and fantasy is executed with just the right amount of cheeky charm.
