Pascale Chemin and Vincent de Boüard turn *Fake Fiancée* into a full-bodied listening experience that’s equal parts immersive and electric. Chemin nails Iris Chapman—her wit is razor-sharp, her vulnerability tucked just beneath the sass, and Chemin makes every snarky comment feel like a punchline you can’t help but repeat. De Boüard, meanwhile, channels Max Kent with a gruff, almost growly charisma that sells the football star’s intensity without overdoing the alpha-male schtick. The chemistry between them is palpable, even in their off-screen moments. My only gripe? The pacing occasionally stalls in the middle chapters, where the football sequences drag longer than necessary, making the romance feel like it’s gasping for air. And while the ending wraps up neatly, I craved just a little more grit—Iris’s journey from doormat to self-advocate could’ve used a sharper edge. That said, the audiobook’s production is top-tier, with seamless transitions between narration and snippets of game commentary that ground the story in its world. If you’re craving a romance where the love story feels earned and the setting pops, this is a slam dunk.
