Fateful Lightning

As someone who's always been fascinated by the Civil War, I found 'Fateful Lightning' to be an absolute gem. Guelzo's research is impeccable, painting a vivid picture of the era's politics, society, and, of course, the war itself. Holsopple's narration is a real standout. He doesn't just read the text; he performs it, giving each character a distinct voice and inflection. The pacing is spot on, too, never bogging down in excessive detail but never rushing through important events either. My only minor critique is that some of the more technical military discussions could have been simplified for the lay listener. But overall, this is a fantastic listen for history buffs and casual listeners alike.
