About This Audiobook

Loretta Rothschild’s debut is not your typical family drama—this is a novel where emotional precision meets psychological tension, and every whispered secret reshapes what you think you know. Honor’s life—perfect husband, brilliant daughter, comfortable London home—begins to fracture when Chloe vanishes during a weekend trip. What follows isn’t just a search, but an excavation of memory, loyalty, and the dangerous stories we tell ourselves to survive. Rothschild writes with a surgeon’s hand, peeling back layers of maternal guilt and marital dissonance without melodrama, making the ordinary feel ominously charged. Fiona Button’s narration elevates the novel’s quiet intensity, adopting a restrained, almost conversational tone that lulls you before delivering emotional gut punches. Her performance captures Honor’s internal spirals without overstatement, letting the tension build through subtle vocal shifts rather than dramatic flourishes. The audiobook’s pacing is deliberate, trusting listeners to sit in the discomfort—perfect for those who prefer emotional depth over breakneck twists. This isn’t an audiobook that yells; it whispers, lingers, and unspools in your mind long after the final chapter.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went in expecting another missing-child thriller, but Finding Grace is something far more intimate and unsettling. Fiona Button’s narration is so understated it almost feels like eavesdropping on someone’s private breakdown. She doesn’t ‘perform’ different characters so much as shift the weight of silence—her pauses are as impactful as her words. The story unfolds through Honor’s perspective, and Button nails the duality of a composed exterior masking inner collapse. What surprised me most was how little the plot relies on clichés. Yes, there’s a disappearance, but the real mystery is the marriage—how two people can live in the same house and misread each other for years. That said, the pacing won’t suit everyone. The first three hours are slow, almost too deliberate, and if you’re craving nonstop action, you might grow restless. I also found some of Chloe’s teenage journal entries slightly contrived—believable in concept, but a bit too on-the-nose in execution. Still, these are minor quibbles. The audiobook’s strength lies in its restraint, in how it trusts the listener to connect dots without hand-holding. The final revelation hit me quietly, then kept echoing. A rare listen that feels both literary and deeply human.
