About This Audiobook

Kennedy Ryan’s *Flow* is a razor-sharp short story that dissects ambition, power, and the messy, unglamorous moments behind the scenes of rising to the top. What makes this audiobook stand out isn’t just its tight runtime or Ryan’s signature knack for dialogue—it’s how it forces you to confront uncomfortable truths. Bristol Gray isn’t the typical manager we cheer for; she’s a hustler with a chip on her shoulder, and Marlon James isn’t the saintly prodigy we expect. Their dynamic crackles with tension, not just because of their chemistry, but because every decision feels like a gamble. The story’s brevity is its strength, packing emotional weight into just a few pages without ever feeling rushed.

The narration elevates the material further. Jakobi Diem’s voice for Marlon is smooth but laced with quiet intensity, while Maxine Mitchell’s Bristol is all fire and grit—a perfect match for a woman who’s spent a lifetime proving she belongs. The production isn’t flashy, but it doesn’t need to be; the focus stays razor-sharp on the voices, letting the raw, unfiltered exchange between these two characters take center stage.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *Flow* expecting another rags-to-riches story, but Kennedy Ryan and her narrators delivered something far more compelling: a story about the quiet erosion of self when success becomes the only metric that matters. Diem and Mitchell turn what could’ve been a one-note power struggle into a full-bodied, almost theatrical experience. Diem’s Marlon is magnetic—his delivery makes you root for him even when he’s being selfish, and Mitchell’s Bristol is a force of nature, her voice dripping with the kind of authority that makes you flinch when she’s wronged. That said, I’ll admit I wanted more. The story’s compressed runtime means some emotional beats feel underdeveloped, and the ending lands with a thud rather than a bang. Still, the audiobook’s strengths outweigh its flaws. The production is crisp, the pacing is relentless, and the ending, while abrupt, lingers in your head like a question you can’t answer. If you’re looking for a love story, this isn’t it. If you want a story about ambition that leaves you squirming, *Flow* delivers.
