Kevin Gray’s narration is a standout feature, his voice smooth and expressive, capturing the essence of both hero and villain alike. Aiko Nakasone's soothing tones add an additional layer of tranquility to the intense narrative, making the audio journey all the more immersive. The swordfighting scenes are masterfully described, with vivid imagery that almost makes you feel like you’re watching a traditional kabuki performance. Despite its literary qualities, Hearn’s prose can sometimes be overly dense; this could make it challenging for listeners who prefer a faster pace or simpler storytelling. Nonetheless, the emotional depth and intricate world-building more than compensate for these occasional moments of clunky dialogue.
