As I dove into Agent of Byzantium, I was immediately swept up in Turtledove's Byzantine spy game. Tim Campbell's narration is top-notch, effortlessly conjuring the intrigue and tension that permeates the narrative. One of the standout aspects of the book is its exploration of the early adoption of gunpowder and telescopes in this alternate timeline – it's both fascinating and unsettling to see these game-changing technologies unfold in a medieval context. However, I did find some of the supporting characters to be a tad underdeveloped, which occasionally disrupted the otherwise seamless flow of the story. That being said, this minor quibble didn't significantly detract from my overall engagement with the audiobook. Campbell's masterful performance and the crisp production quality more than made up for it, ensuring a listening experience that's equal parts captivating and intellectually stimulating.
