Karen Huie’s narration is nothing short of masterful; her deep emotional range perfectly complements Hua-ling Hu’s narrative. Her voice carries the listener through moments of despair to periods of hope, painting vivid and often painful scenes of a woman caught in a nightmare. The pacing is deliberate but never slow, maintaining engagement throughout its six-hour duration. However, there are instances where the production could benefit from more dynamic sound design to enhance the emotional impact, especially during particularly intense passages. Despite this minor critique, American Goddess at the Rape of Nanking remains a profoundly moving and deeply personal account that leaves an indelible mark on those who dare to listen.
