As I listened to And Then She Fell, I found myself drawn into a world that's both deeply personal and universally relatable. Elliott's writing is like a punch to the gut – it's uncomfortable, it's painful, and it's necessary. Through the eyes of her protagonist, she shines a light on the systemic and personal forces that shape the lives of Indigenous mothers, from the legacy of colonialism to the expectations of motherhood. The narration by Cheri Maracle and Jenna Clause is outstanding – they bring a sense of urgency and intimacy to the story that's hard to shake. However, I did find the pacing to be a bit uneven at times, with some chapters feeling like they drag on a bit too long. Additionally, I wished for a bit more resolution at the end – the book's conclusion feels a bit abrupt, leaving the listener to piece together the fragments of the protagonist's story. Still, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise outstanding audiobook.
