Gabrielle Baker’s narration is nothing short of brilliant in Au Revoir, Tristesse. Her ability to evoke both sorrow and joy with perfect pitch is uncanny—she seamlessly transitions from the somber tones of classic French literature to the lighter moments of Groskop's personal anecdotes. The pacing is impeccable; it never lags, but neither does it rush through the heartfelt narratives. Each chapter feels like a carefully crafted gem. While the blend of memoir and literary history is seamless, there are occasional gaps in connecting the dots between Groskop’s modern life and the historical figures she discusses, which occasionally pull focus from the narrative's flow.
