Between the Chalk and the Sea

I found the narration by Fenella Fudge and Barnaby Kay to be exceptionally well-balanced, their voices harmonizing perfectly to enhance Gail Simmons' compelling narrative. The first few chapters, where Henry VIII's ban on pilgrimage is introduced, set a somber tone that lingers throughout. Simmons’ writing style is both educational and engaging, making the dense historical content accessible without sacrificing depth. However, some sections felt a bit slow, particularly when delving into the minutiae of map-making techniques. Nonetheless, the overall pacing is superb, maintaining just enough suspense to keep listeners hooked until the final page (or in this case, chapter).
