I was deeply moved by Don't Skip Out on Me, and Willy Vlautin's narration was a big part of its impact. His voice is like a warm breeze on a cold winter's night, gentle and reassuring, yet strong enough to convey the depth of emotion that Vlautin's words demand. As I listened, I found myself fully immersed in Horace's world, feeling the weight of his struggles and the beauty of his surroundings. One of the things that struck me most was the way Vlautin handles the complex relationships between Horace and the Reeses, his kindly guardians. Their bond is deep and abiding, yet fraught with tension, and Vlautin's narration brings this to life with remarkable nuance. If I have one quibble, it's that the pacing can be a bit uneven at times, with some scenes feeling a bit too long or drawn out. However, this is a minor complaint in what is otherwise a powerful and moving audiobook.
