Doorways in the Sand

As I listened to Doorways in the Sand, I found myself chuckling along with Fred Cassidy's misadventures and cringing at his sometimes dubious decision-making. Andrew J. Andersen's narration was a major part of the audiobook's charm, bringing a perfect tone of dry humor to the story. He effortlessly conveyed the lighthearted, comedic moments, but also brought depth to the more introspective scenes where Cassidy grapples with the implications of his life choices. One of the standout elements of this audiobook is its pacing. Zelazny's writing is a masterclass in building momentum and sustaining momentum, and Andersen's narration kept me on the edge of my seat as Cassidy careened from one absurd situation to the next. My only criticism would be that the supporting characters sometimes felt a bit one-dimensional, which made it hard to fully invest in their stories. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise delightful listen, and I'd highly recommend Doorways in the Sand to anyone seeking a fun, lighthearted science fiction romp.
