Emma Newman’s performance is nothing short of exceptional—her clear enunciation and distinct voices for each character make this audiobook a joy from start to finish. The narrative jumps between the empress's courtly intrigues and her daughters’ more personal lives, creating a rich tapestry that keeps you engaged throughout. However, some segments feel rushed, particularly when transitions between characters could benefit from a bit more transition time. Despite this minor quibble, Goldstone’s storytelling is so captivating that even these few flaws are quickly forgiven.
