Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into 'Making Sense of a United Ireland' with a healthy dose of skepticism - as someone who's always been fascinated by Irish history, I wasn't sure if O'Leary's analysis would add anything new to the conversation. But from the very first chapter, I was hooked. Dempsey's narration is superb, bringing a sense of warmth and authority to the proceedings that's hard to resist. At times, the pacing can feel a bit slow - particularly during the longer historical sections - but this is a minor quibble in an otherwise excellent production. One area where the audiobook falters is in its treatment of more recent events. While O'Leary does an admirable job of contextualizing the Troubles and their aftermath, I felt that the book could have benefited from a more detailed examination of the Good Friday Agreement and its ongoing impact on Northern Ireland. Nevertheless, 'Making Sense of a United Ireland' remains a compelling and thought-provoking listen, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in Irish history or politics.
