Maya and the Robot

Bahni Turpin’s voice is as soothing as a summer breeze, making every moment of Maya’s adventure feel both intimate and expansive. Her portrayal of Maya, full of vulnerability yet brimming with determination, captivates from the first chapter to the last. The story itself is a masterclass in balancing humor with depth; Eve L. Ewing expertly navigates the challenges faced by a fifth-grader while also tackling themes of acceptance and the unpredictable nature of friendship. The pacing is just right – slow enough for listeners to absorb each new revelation but fast enough to keep them eagerly turning (or rather, listening through) pages. However, some may find the science project subplot slightly underdeveloped, overshadowing the more engaging personal narrative. Despite this minor critique, Maya and the Robot remains a standout in its genre.
