As someone who has long admired Natasha Trethewey’s work, I was excited for this audiobook and was not disappointed. Her narration is both soothing and raw, perfectly complementing the emotional depth of her storytelling. One of the standout elements is how she seamlessly transitions between poetic language and prose, maintaining a lyrical flow that keeps the listener engaged. However, some segments feel slightly rushed, like when she quickly moves from one memory to another, which can sometimes make it harder to fully grasp the nuances of each experience. Overall, Memorial Drive is a powerful and moving listen, making Trethewey’s personal journey accessible in an entirely new way.
