Mongrels

I found Mongrels a thrilling and often uncomfortable listen—both in terms of its narrative and the superb narration by Chris Patton and Jonathan Yen. The story, told through the eyes of a young boy grappling with his own monstrosity, is raw and unflinching. The pacing is brisk yet never hurried, allowing ample time for emotional depth to seep into each scene. However, some moments felt overly dramatic, which might detract from those seeking a more subtle approach. Nonetheless, the performances by Patton and Yen are top-notch, particularly in their portrayal of the complex family dynamics and community interactions. Their voices complement Jones' writing perfectly, making Mongrels an audiobook that’s hard to put down.
