Anna Popplewell delivers a performance that’s as lively as the protagonist herself. Her ability to convey the youthful exuberance and the growing maturity of Emmy Lake is nothing short of brilliant. The pacing is perfect, never lagging despite its substantial runtime. Each character's voice is distinct yet believable, adding layers to the narrative. However, some scenes feel slightly rushed, like when Emmy’s relationship with her childhood friend takes a turn, which could have benefited from more nuanced exploration. Despite this minor critique, 'Mrs. Porter Calling' remains an engaging and moving listen that captures the essence of 1940s London through its characters’ lives.
