I found Kelvin Harrison Jr.’s portrayal of Jojo, the young protagonist, exceptionally compelling; his voice carried the weight of the story without overshadowing the narrative. Rutina Wesley’s nuanced performance as Kayla, Jojo’s mother, adds a tender layer to the audiobook that is deeply moving. The pacing is deliberate and often melancholic, which can be challenging but ultimately rewarding. One critique is that some scenes could benefit from more dynamic storytelling; however, the overall emotional impact is undeniable. ‘Sing, Unburied, Sing’ is a powerful exploration of identity and belonging, delivered with exceptional narration and production quality.
