As I listened to The Book of Forgotten Witches, I found myself drawn into the world of Bölecz's witches, each with their own complex history and motivations. Frances Butt's narration was a key factor in this, bringing a depth and nuance to the stories that I hadn't anticipated. Her portrayal of the witches' struggles and triumphs felt particularly compelling, especially in the cases of those who defied societal norms and expectations. That being said, I did find some of the historical context to feel a touch dry at times, particularly in the sections where Bölecz delves into the more academic aspects of witchcraft. While this was undoubtedly necessary for a comprehensive understanding of the topic, it did occasionally disrupt the flow of the narrative. Additionally, I would have appreciated a more explicit exploration of the themes and symbolism woven throughout the text. Nevertheless, these minor criticisms aside, The Book of Forgotten Witches is a captivating and thought-provoking listen that will resonate with fans of history, sociology, and spirituality.
