Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

As I listened to The Girl They Left Behind, I became increasingly invested in the lives of its characters, particularly the young girl at the heart of the story. Cassandra Campbell's nuanced and warm narration perfectly captures the complexity of her emotional journey, from the innocence of childhood to the trauma of war. The pacing is well-balanced, hurtling towards a tragic yet uplifting conclusion that had me feeling both devastated and empowered. If I have any quibbles, it's that some supporting characters feel a tad one-dimensional - the mother-daughter relationship, for example, could have been fleshed out further. Nonetheless, this is a minor complaint in an otherwise exceptional audiobook.
