As an editor, I have to admit that I was thoroughly engaged by this audiobook from start to finish. The pacing is expertly handled, hurtling from one dramatic scene to the next with effortless ease. Aria Holland's portrayal of Penelope Essex is particularly noteworthy – her voice captures the character's quiet determination and sharp wit, making it easy to imagine this wallflower as a true heroine of the Regency era. My only quibble is that some of the supporting characters felt slightly one-dimensional, but this is a minor complaint in an otherwise engrossing listen.
