I devoured The Torment of a Scottish Warrior in one sitting, and I'm still reeling from the experience. Paul Woodson's narration is a major part of what makes this audiobook so compelling – his rich, sonorous voice conjures the misty Highlands with ease, and his ability to convey the emotional nuances of each character is nothing short of remarkable. Montclair's story is a masterclass in pacing, hurtling from intense action sequences to tender moments of character growth with precision and sensitivity. One of my only quibbles with the narrative is the relatively convenient resolution to some of the conflicts, which felt like a slight cheat to me. However, this minor misstep is easily forgivable in light of the story's many successes. The chemistry between Merryn and Ewen is palpable, and their slow-burning romance is a highlight of the book. Overall, I'd highly recommend The Torment of a Scottish Warrior to fans of historical fiction, romance, and high-stakes adventure.
