As I listened to Wade in the Water, I found myself completely absorbed in the world Nkrumah has created. The story has a natural rhythm, moving seamlessly from moments of quiet introspection to explosive outbursts of emotion. The dual narration is a key element in creating this sense of flow, with Flowers and Schnaubelt working together to build a sense of tension and release that mirrors the protagonist's own journey. One of the things that struck me about this audiobook was the way it handled complex themes like racism and identity. While the subject matter can be uncomfortable at times, Nkrumah tackles it with sensitivity and nuance. If I have any criticisms, it's that the pacing can sometimes feel a bit uneven, with some sections feeling a bit rushed.
