Friggin' Candy

I started *Friggin’ Candy* on a whim during a cross-country drive of my own, and I ended up yelling at the narrator (the protagonist, not the voice actor—though she’d be justified too) more times than I could count. Ash Beverly and Mia Madison’s dual narration is the secret weapon here, seamlessly switching between the protagonist’s razor-sharp inner monologue and Angus’s gruff, no-nonsense charm. Beverly’s performance is a masterclass in sarcasm with heart, while Madison nails the gruff, protective energy of Angus—especially in the rare moments he drops the act. The pacing is relentless, with enough twists to keep you hooked but not so many that the emotional beats feel rushed. That said, the protagonist’s refusal to name herself after 400 pages grated on my nerves more than her chaotic life choices did. And while the romance is steamy enough to heat up your car’s AC, the suspension of disbelief required for Angus’s sudden wealth and the protagonist’s conveniently unchecked access to it might leave you side-eyeing the audiobook’s logic. Still, if you’re here for the banter, the bickering, and the kind of love that feels like a high-speed collision, this one’s a winner.
